About
Decarbonising cities begins at the planning stage.
We are the domain experts.
-
uuen was founded to advance decarbonisation from the earliest stages of urban planning and design. We provide cloud-based urban building energy modelling (UBEM) services that empower stakeholders across the built environment to shape low-carbon cities.
Our team created the uune services around the open-source City Energy Analyst (CEA). Each of us comes directly from the CEA Team and continues to hold dual roles in both teams. Through uuen, we’re building a sustainable business model that supports CEA’s ongoing development and expands its real-world impact.
More than just a technology provider, uuen exists to bridge a decade of research and teaching on energy-driven urban design, architecture, and building systems into practical tools and services for decarbonising cities.
-
City Energy Analyst (CEA) is an open-source urban building energy modelling (UBEM) tool developed and hosted at ETH Zurich’s A/S Research Group and the Future Cities Laboratory since 2013. It remains freely available as a desktop-based tool for researchers, students, and practitioners.
uuen was founded by members of the original CEA team to bring CEA’s capabilities into the cloud and support its use in real-world projects. While CEA remains open-source, uuen maintains and extends its features through CEA Pro, a cloud-enabled version that eliminates installation issues, offers faster and more stable simulations, and introduces enhanced tools such as advanced visualisation, auto-reporting, and design insights.
uuen also supports the community through training, plug-in development, and tailored services, ensuring that CEA can be used effectively by students, researchers, urban designers, and government agencies worldwide.
